"And he spoke a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray and not to faint." (Luke 18:1)
The
Lord Jesus, in Luke 18:1-8 enjoins us through a parable the need to persevere
and be importunate in prayer. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 instructs to "Pray
without ceasing." That is because through prayer our spirits are
conditioned to become dependable receptacles of God’s ideas, visions and
promptings. You may want to ask "How about if you feel reluctant to pray,
does it mean one is spiritually weak?"
First,
such a feeling doesn’t necessarily mean you’re weak, but it does signify a
problem you have to deal with. Prayer is your life’s work, and you must do it.
This means irrespective of how you feel, you must maintain discipline in
prayer, and that is how to prevail over circumstances.
Secondly,
you should learn to stir up your spirit. 1 Corinthians 14:4 says "He that
speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself…." Speaking in tongues is
synonymous with recharging your spirit like a battery. This helps you respond
to the Lord more quickly from your spirit.
Also,
the scriptures highlight for us practical steps on how to always be filled with
the Spirit (Read Ephesians 5:18-21). For the one who is continually filled with
the Spirit, prayer is never a drag, but a moment of divine ecstasy; a time to
revel in the love, bliss and grace of God’s embrace.
Fourthly,
take advantage of prayer times with other Christians. This will help you
develop a passion for prayer and a richer relationship and fellowship with the
Holy Spirit. Master your special
prayer times, if you have none, connect with the Spirit and you will know yours. This will help you develop a consistent and exciting
prayer life.
